In the current issue and second volume (Winter 2010) of GreenCraft there are some really great ideas. Towards the back of the magazine, there’s a super-creative project by Cynthia Shaffer that involves knitting mini-baskets using string from the inside of old baseballs (so cool!) And within the article “Grocery Bags: Artfully Altered”, I share a heart-shaped project that’s just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Here’s a simplified and mini version (roughly 6″ across) that I made using a brown paper lunch bag. I always have a stack of these inexpensive bags handy for all sorts of projects (and Brook’s school lunch!) To add a personal touch, tuck a sweet note inside (don’t forget to leave one of the top heart curves open/unsewn.)

i spent about an hour looking at greencraft a couple of days at barnes and noble along with a some hot chocolate. i enjoyed all the amazing projects. i want to try making some cute little earrings. i love the brown ribbon you used on your bag; lovely.

Hi Becky – It’s me again! I really love your idea and I wondered if I could “steal” it for our church Valentine dinner. I wanted to make something for everyone but needed it to be inexpensive. I thought I could print out little scriptures about love and put them inside the heart pouch. You always inspire me!!!!

I answered you on my blog but thought I’d also do so here … I love repurposing, recycling, etc. too. I don’t want to let anything go now, everything seems to have another life down the road – which can be a challenge when you live in a house the size of a cracker box. WAH!
& thanks so much for the info re the second issue of GreenCraft – I hadn’t realized it had just come out, that explains why I hadn’t seen it yet. Our second address would certainly be “the bookstore”, so I seldom miss the wonderful Stampington publications.
