Love in the Mix

I created this love-inspired mixed-media canvas for Jennifer as a wedding gift.

Layers of creamy colors with dot accents makes me think of vanilla frosted wedding cakes.

A single, sparkly vintage earring sits atop a fuzzy bed of wool.

One meaningful word amongst a scattering of shimmer.

An antique drawer pull acts as a roof-like accent…this one, strong element hints to thoughts of shelter.  A good marriage can be like a shelter…a sanctuary where couples retreat to, to support and encourage each other.

Creating canvases with love in the mix puts me in a dreamy, gentle mood.  What about you…what puts you in this sweet and peaceful state?

  1. & YOU know how to cherish.
it comes through in so many ways.
you come through. yes, becky, yes!
as for the state you mention,
    i think the simple things.
a quiet beginning to my day.
    hearing the birds.
a sip of coffee. (maybe a few sips!)
taking in a few beautiful words.
    love 2u! xox

  2. This is a lovely, thoughtful gift, that is especially so because it was cherished by you as you created it.
What takes me to that place is when I have made the decisions and am doing the work – handstitching with eembroidery thread will take me there in seconds.

my peaceful state…every night my sweet cat, Baby, gets in bed with me. She lies down close enough for me to pet her. When she starts purring louder than the volume on the tv, I know all is well with the world.

Your canvas is just outstanding. What a wonderful gift.

  4. Love this canvas, and your quote about shelter in a marriage…so beautiful and true and I am grateful for that kind of marriage.
I also love what Kim said above…I have my two sweet cats that do the same thing, and even when I might be distraught about something they seem to know and their purr and touch comforts my soul.

  5. Kim and Becca, your kitty-love sounds a lot like my doggie-love…loyal pets are the best!

Seriously, can I just come and sit on the edge of your desk one day? I won’t make a sound …. I’ll even hand you the glue gun …..

  8. Such a lovely wedding gift handmade with simplicity and love from you Becky. Getting into that sweet and peaceful place can be from something as simple as glancing at Mr. C from across the room knowing he is my soul mate and my life with him is so good. Right now I am in that wonderful place just be cleaning my studio. I am always amazed at the things I find buried in piles of daily stuff. Life is good and your art is great!

The ocean immediately relaxes me. Something about the constant slap of waves helps me to draw in breath and slow down like no other place.

  12. Kathi, the ocean does it for me too. Being in this environment feels like a warm and wonderful embrace from Mother Nature.

  16. It is beautiful as are the treasured thoughts that go with it 😀
I love the colors you chose and the framing accent, to protect what is sacred~
Dreamy gentle mood…okay, morning and evening walks, gardening reminds me of what has grown around me and with me and the ocean. It’s roar is calling me the lull of the waves and the pound of the sand, tug at my heart. It is where I met my hubby and my favorite place on the planet~X

    Love this Becky!
What size is the canvas? When I first saw it, I thought it was a small pin. Then I read canvas. It is hard for me to picture the size. But it is so pretty!

    June 26th, 2011

  18. Nancy, the canvas is 4″ x 4″. I use this size a lot…it’s perfect for making small little pretties.

  19. Becky this piece and sentiment are just beautiful. I smiled as I read your words about a good marriage being a shelter. It reminded me that I am truly blessed to have such a marriage. I should let that inspire me more.

  22. I’ve visited your blog before but it’s been a while. Re-found again through Ellen Wilson–Honestly, looking at things like this make me feel sort of relaxed and calm. I think that’s why I continually gravitate to mixed-media and art stuff…even though I have very little time to make much.
This is a beautiful piece, you have such a talent for creating pieces that evoke strong feelings. I’m a big fan 🙂 ~Scarlett

  23. It’s like a crown at the top. I think I have crowns on my mind right now, as I’m reading “Elizabeth I” by Margaret George and am totally immersed in its 600+ pages! So this takes me right to that time period in the 15th and 16th centuries even though your drawer pull is probably Victorian. I think Elizabeth would have loved this!
