Yellow Window

As you know I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with watercolor paint.  When I sit down to play with this medium it usually begins with a simple idea, which turns into a simple sketch.

The inspiration for the piece below began with windows, a yellow one to be specific.  I chose to paint my window frame yellow because this color is associated with feelings of optimism, enlightenment and happiness…I’m always looking for ways to include positive energy in my artwork.

With the addition of a basic roof this window becomes a house.

Inside of my window there are dreamy drapes of lace…a light layer of beeswax brings out the delicate details.

At the bottom of the window I added all kinds of pretty things, like a patch of shimmery flowers.

I continued this layering effect on the sides too.

Creating this yellow window of sunshine made me happy.  What happy things have you been creating lately?

  3. I love that you chose sunny yellow for your view~ It is beautiful…are the flowers french knots? The bees wax really elevates the warmth of home, to me.
Happy things, I made pumpkin bread, my home smelled amazing. I am working on a banner. I want to make a doll; I dyed fabric and now considering what kind I want to make. I entered an essay contest, when I hit send and emailed it, made me pretty giddy~

I’ve been making a lot of crafts with my kids as we’re learning about ancient Egypt. I haven’t posted them on my blog but they are fun and ‘happy’ things to make with them. Have a great weekend!

  9. Oh my goodness..I’m in love with all those layers! I have been too busy with family and work to find sufficient time to create. I am hoping to have a few hours to myself tomorrow. I’m afraid the studio needs a cleaning first though before I can wrap my mind around the unfinished projects! lol Typical cycle that we all go through I know…have a great weekend!

  10. Such a sweet little sunny collage Becky.
When you use beeswax in your work, so you use straight beeswax or do you use a beeswax + Damar resin?
