A couple months ago I received some goodies in the mail from Mindy. She surprised me by sending over a box full of wonderful things like quail eggs and feathers, empty mint tins and such. I met Mindy through my blog…like so many of you she has a dear and caring heart. When I started this blog I had no idea how warm and generous you’d all be…thank you for all the good energy you’ve sent my way. I’m very grateful for these connections.
Okay, back to the project that I just finished. Using one of Mindy’s tins (Altoids) I created this box of hope…
…with a portion of a poem by Emily Dickinson inside…
…along with a floaty feather and a “love” necklace, resting on soft layers of textural tulle. Doesn’t the tulle remind you of the sea somehow? Seeing it makes me think of a fishing net…
…which makes me think, if you cast your net wide enough, you might find “love”.
To hope and love!
BTW, I originally came across this Emily Dickinson poem through a blog comment from Sonya a while back – a perfect example of how I gain and grow through connecting with all of you…so thank you again friends, both old and new.

These are my favourite Dickinson verses, and I think they fit just perfectly into the lid of a mostly closed tin – like a little hidden secret. What a wonderful project!

HOPE is the one thing I’m never without, Becky. I never give up, and try as hard as i can, always. Hope is what keeps me trying, trying, to be better, do more, live and love more. Thanks for sending the poem just at the right time. I’ve always loved it, and have used it in some of my cards.

Hi Becky,
This is so beautiful and really touching. I am so inspired by all you do and have wanted to have a go at those dear little book necklaces you shared in Somerset Life a while back. Just this weekend I have had real fun doing some of these. One will go to a friend for whom I have made a box of goodies for the 11 days or so after she comes out of hospital following an operation on Monday. I will post my little books on the blog tomorrow hopefully. Thanks so much for sharing all that you do.

This piece is as lovely as your work always is. I was wondering how you did the outside of the box. You are an absolute whiz at turning bits into fabulous keepsakes.

To answer your question Lynn, Use a sponge brush to apply acrylic paint (Golden – Titan Buff) onto the outside (and inside too if you like) of the box and let dry (you’ll need two coats). Then use a stiff stencil brush to lightly apply Distress Ink (tea-dye) to the edges of the box as well as a bit here and there (very sparingly). Then for the top, I used a glue stick to adhere a hand torn piece of kraft paper to act as a base for the other elements. Have fun and let me know if you have any other questions.

another beautiful piece of art dear Becky and how poetic it all is- combining a gift, some friendship and correspondence along with a love of nature and the art it inspires.
