Beach Jewelry

On April 1st, the Spring issue of Jewelry Affaire will be available through Stampington.

And published inside you’ll find my article, “Offerings from the Sea.”

These charms were created using shimmery shells that Brook and I collected from the shores of Nantucket last April.

Wearing these necklaces always reminds me of our mother/daughter time together.

Last weekend our family escaped to our Maine place for some beach fun.  We haven’t been there since mid-December so this outing felt extra special.  The beauty of this place always takes my breath away.

It was a very cold and windy day and I had to bundle up…

…but this did not distract me from hunting down these two gifts from the beach.  I love the contrast between the delicate-airiness of the feather against the solid and grounded feeling of the driftwood.  I’m considering using these pieces to create a bracelet for Brook.

Tomorrow our darling girl Brook turns 13!  Bill and I can’t believe how quickly our little treasure is growing up.  Reaching this milestone reminds me of the importance of pressing the pause button often, to let ourselves “be” in the moment and experience true “joy.”

  7. I love this post and how you drew the magic in from your special place in Maine and your bond with Brook. When I think of my favorite spot, it is a place where heaven kisses the sea and hugs the shore; a place of calm n’ strength, that remains, but is ever changing. It is like this with our children, a daily treasure hunt of connecting, discovering and sharing their new passions and focus. You and Brook will always share this special spot, where memories mix with magic. (my children n’ I do). I hope Brook has an extraordinary birthday one marked with lovely memories and stirred with enchanted charm.

What a beautiful way to combine the beach treasures & wonderful memories in your jewelry . I love how you’ve layered the various textures (shells, metal, beads) making each unique.

  10. Happy be-lated birthday wishes to your daughter. My daughter turned 10 on Tuesday (22nd), and I can really relate in the desire to just ‘press pause’ once in awhile.

Did you end up making her a bracelet?? I hope you share a picture with us if you did. 😉

  11. Shannon, it turns out that the driftwood piece was too chunky for a bracelet so I made Brook a necklace charm instead…thanks for asking. I’ll post a photo soon.

Happy Birthday to Brook…It is wonderful you share special times together. They grow so fast and it is important to enjoy moments at every age. Your offerings from the sea are so beautiful. I love the simplicity of your pieces yet the emotions they evoke are far from simple.
