A Dragonfly and a Giveaway

How exciting that March is already here…I love this month!  I welcome this warm and vivacious season with wide and open arms!

This month also brings many colorful things, like the beautiful artwork that’s featured on the cover of the new issue of Somerset Studio.

Inside this issue you’ll see my article and artwork on the Last Page.

Here are some close-ups of the details.

I found this feather at a beach in Maine last Summer and it happened to be the perfect element for enhancing a wing.  Also, like usual, I incorporated many other recycled materials, found objects and such.  I know that many of you like to do this too…it’s wonderful to have this in common.

I plan to do more open exploring going forward…with my art as well as in everyday life.  And you…what things are you looking forward to exploring?

And speaking of exploring, after my marvelous visit to Puerto Rico I created a couple of island-inspired jewelry pieces, which I’m offering as a giveaway.

A bright and bold bracelet echoes the colorful buildings that line the streets of Old San Juan…

…while these earrings whisper a soothing tune.

If you’d like to enter a chance to win (both pieces to one winner) please leave a comment (simply say hi, or share what things have been inspiring you lately) to this post by next Friday, March 16th, and I’ll announce the random winner the next morning.

Thanks very much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts…happy creative week ahead!

  1. You are a Master at creating magical creations from found items!! Both my parents were born and raised in Puerto Rico. Unfortunately for me, the last time I visited family there was long, long ago. I hope you enjoyed the beauty of the island.

    Have a great weekend,

    Abby

Nature has been inspiring me lately. I was gifted with the largest black feather recently. Still trying to figure out what to do with it. It’s sitting on my kitchen windowsill for now. I know the inspiration will come just like the warm breezes of spring.

  5. Your artwork and blog are definitely two things that are inspiring me. I must admit though, the blossoms that the early spring has brought are incredibly inspiring too!

  6. Truly lovely! Lately, I have been inspired by all the vintage photos I have of family. My mother will turn 85 in a couple of weeks, and everything I have been making is centered around that – particularly using old photos of her in various projects. Peace to you!

  7. I love how you incorporated the feather! The sparkle adds the magical quality of their fragile wings..so beautiful! I knew your trip would inspire you…so much color~ How wonderful! I too love March and embrace her mood swinging weather. Hoping for endless blue to soon paint the sky. It is time for kite season. You know I once had a dragonfly kite… ;D

Oh Becky ~ Thank you so much for the chance to win one of your gorgeous and inspirational creations ♥ I love how you’ve incorporated the found feather into your dragonfly canvas ~ it’s these little touches you add that make your work so recognizable xo

We adopted a Lab almost a month ago & my days have been spent walking and showing Archer his new “forever” home ♥ You’d never know it was only a month by the amount of photos though 🙂
Have a great weekend Becky – it’s been trying to snow all morning!

Hi, Becky! Thanks for your reply to my e-mail! I subscribe to your blog via e-mail; but am unable to make a comment there. So, when I tried to access your blog; I couldn’t get in.

Anyhoo – just wanted to comment on your article in Somerset Studio and the last page, too! Wonderfully written and beautiful photos, too! My collage work has slowed considerably in the last year, but I still collect little things along the way. Never know when I might want to create with them!

Thanks for the chance to win such lovely items!!

Hi Becky! It’s so good to find someone who loves dragonflies as I do! I use them often in my cards and collages, but what a super idea to put in the feather!! Clever girl!

I am always, always searching for ideas for using discarded, unloved, has-been things in my work; a dropped feather, a ticket stub, even a tiny diary key found in a parking lot! All is grist for my mill, and the mind is always looking at odd ‘found’ things for ways to find new life for them! Keep up the wonderful work!

  27. I´ve finally received my Somerset copy yesterday so I could see your dragonfly, and I love it – you make me feel like a glitter lover 😉
Your bracelet is beautiful as well, and I´d love to wear it this summer!

I love the dragonfly piece, you have taken an ordinary found object and moved it into a magical place. Thanks so much for sharing your art with us. I love the Puerto Rican inspired jewelry, just the right touch of color for the summer. Colors can be so inspiring, I just bought a huge early bouquet of miniature sunflowers, while we still have a whole bunch of snow on the ground, I just couldn’t resist! The color just gets me dreaming of summer fields, blue skies and whispy white clouds. Hope you are having a wonderful day.

Love that piece, but then there is nothing that you have done that I don’t like 🙂 I am going to try and do that dragonfly, well, not that exact one but one like it. It is a lovely day here in Victoria, BC and we are off to the park, with camera in hand and dogs along for the ride. 🙂
Have a great weekend Becky and talk to you soon.

I am especially looking forward to Somerset arriving knowing it contains your art.
That feather was awaiting your arrival to be included in your art and what a precious wing it makes.
I am always exploring to see what I can use, the teeniest scraps of lace, ephemera or to spy a perfect button, nothing is safe lol.
I would love to win, it would bring some sunshine to the dreich Scottish days.
    Wishes

  44. Congratulations on your Dragonfly article. Magical and mystical and so beautiful. I used to be afraid of them but now I adore watching them at our pond. So Beautiful! Your jewelry certainly does remind me of the colorful buildings in San Juan Puerto Rico that I saw when I visited a few years ago. Those earrings are calling me with their serenity. I am exploring ways to reduce my need to worry about everything. It will be a challenge however I am up for it. Please include me in your generous give. Thank you dear…
