Birdie and a Nest

The new issue of Somerset Studio (May/June) is now available.  And inside you’ll see a couple of my projects in the “With One Stamp” department.

I used “The Nightingale” stamp (“Birds of a Feather” set from Tweety Jill, which contains 15 different stamps) to create this canvas…

…as well as this necklace (collage on bamboo tile).

With birds on the brain (which often happens, especially during this time of year), I used some wire (left over from a jewelry project that I recently goofed up) to create this cute, little nest.

Taking a tangled mess…

and turning it into a little nest feels satisfying.  And it’s an added bonus that this nest comes in handy for housing my beach finds of sand-tumbled stones.

The addition of a single feather (also from my collection of beach finds) seems to add a good measure of balance.

With the weather getting warmer I’ve been feeling especially energetic, with a strong urge to do some feathering of our nest.  So I’ll be stepping away for a couple of weeks while I gather the bits and pieces that I hope will make our home feel fresh and comfy…more modern yet still homey.  Our family has lived in our current home for about 8 years now, and I haven’t done much to it since we moved in…so it’s time.  And I’m excited!  How about you…have you been feeling an itch to do a home makeover also?

Hey I just saw that issue last night and was going to email you this morning — I love the calming colors. And the little pop of turquoise on the wire …… BUT … you know I love my little nests, your wire one is so cool, I’m going to have to try that. Enjoy “renesting” your home!

  8. Thanks for the nice comments ladies. And Ann Marie, the turquoise pop of color is sewing thread (not wire)…just in case you’re thinking about making the collage.

sweet nature inspired art as always dear Becky. Enjoy your time feathering your nest-I’m sure it’s going to be as fresh, inspiring and beautiful as your art is! We’re working on going thru various spaces, closets and drawers to get rid of clutter. It sure is a WIP after so many years of collecting and holding on to things but we really need to do it.

Your projects are beautiful, as always, Becky – thanks so much for sharing. And this Spring, after waiting TEN years to do it, I’ve gone out and bought myself a very beautiful built-for-the-back reclining chair I’ve been saving for — in Cherry Red Leather. I feel better already, but it won’t arrive for 4 months! Meanwhile, I will be creative, that will keep me from feeling anxious! Good luck with your homemaking project, maybe we can have a peep in when you are done? I would love to see.

We are redoing our FROG. I removed all of my crafting stuff from it and reorganized everything in the attic, except the Christmas bins. I look forward to hearing about your feathered nest! Spring is the perfect time for this type of endeavor~ Lovely creations :D

  18. Becky that nest is just fabulous! And I love your intended use for it as well.

We just moved into our new home about 3 weeks ago, and at first it was a big rush to get things unpacked, (my son was going in for a tonsillectomy the following week). Now however, I can slow down and add little touches of personality here and there, making each space uniquely us.
