Over the holidays I received a very lovely package from a very wonderful Jenny.
Tucked inside an elegantly decorated box were some beautiful buttons…these blue ones are so incredible. Who knew that vintage buttons could be dyed to create such soothing hues? It’s ingenious of Jenny to come up with this amazing kit idea.
Inspired by the gorgeous blue hues as well as Jenny’s generosity, I created these needle felted wool heart necklaces.
Of course I couldn’t make just one, so both of these necklaces are being offered as a single giveaway. With Valentines Day coming up you could share one with a friend and also keep one for yourself…two hearts are better than one right?
In addition to the necklaces, I’m also offering the bird below as part of this giveaway. BTW, I’ve been needle felting A LOT lately since during the Winter months it’s hard to resist the soft and cozy feel of warm wool. How about you, what have your hands been into…what’s got you chirping away?
I used vintage white buttons from the same kit to give the spool some subtle charm.
I haven’t had a chance to use the pretty pink buttons or the alphabet stamps yet, but I’m planning to soon, perhaps even as early as next week. Having special supplies on hand gets me itching to make things…I’ve definitely caught the “Button Love” bug.
To enter, please leave a comment to this post by 5pm next Friday the 14th, and I’ll post the winner on Saturday morning. Thanks and have a fantastic week.

What an inspiring gift to receive from Jenny! And I love the necklaces you made!! And the birdie cuz I love birds, too 😉 I’ve never tried my hand at felting but I love it – so soft and fuzzy looking. This time of year I love to clean out the old and bring in the new – new beginnings, new ideas, new art.
Love,
Lisa

Time worn memories attached to these tiny gems. I love the necklaces, especially the white one, really lovely! Jenny’s gift is of such sweet sentiment!
Your felted bird is precious; Yes, please toss my name in the hat.

Hmmmm…..candy-pink buttons…upcoming Valentine’s Day….giveaway this month of the 14th…sure sounds like some makings for a love-ly piece! These buttons look so yummy I could eat them! How about making a “love” bird incorporating the buttons? These lovely buttons evoke memories of my mom’s artwork..I have tea-dyed vintage-look embroidered muslin pillows she made all over my house, and several of them are embellished with buttons. Her hands are no longer able to create these beautiful treasures, but how lucky I am to have them.
January 8th, 2011

I have a shutter hanging in my hallway that’s bare since I took down the Christmas decorations a few days ago. It’s telling me to do something!!
Thanks,

Hi Becky, I came to your blog after reading your article and seeing your inspiring art in Somerset Studio (Nov/Dec-yes I’m a bit behind!). I may try the beeswax yet! But these beautiful vintage buttons (which I adore and can’t get enough of) and especially those SAWEET felted necklaces have me squealing with delight at the thought of winning even one!!! Thank you for generously sharing your beautiful art! :)Linda
January 11th, 2011
in all my excitement -to clarify my first comment above- I saw your beeswax canvases on your website-the Somerset article about the windows and doorways is the one that had me check your sites! I love taking pics of the windows and doors in Europe too and now will look at a new way of using them in my art-merci beaucoup! :)Linda K

I had no idea! I may just have to try the dyeing buttons on my “inheritance.” The feel of wool in the winter is incredible! Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing!
January 12th, 2011
Loved the buttons and the necklace, it reminded me of my mother, she loved blues and our whole house was in blues! She was artistic too, I think she lives in me…after many artistic projects, working in greens and browns I find myself returning to my roots..I began working in the blue hues…D.
January 12th, 2011
LOVE the llittle felted hearts! Would love to be the winner and also be able to gift someone with that amazing little heart!
January 12th, 2011
Everything is so beautiful Becky! I love wool felting but have done very little; now I am inspired to get it out and get going again.
I have been finishing things so far this year and it actually feels good! Some of the things I finished were the pink clay word hearts you designed that were featured in “Jewellery Affaire” last Spring. I loved them on sight and was so excited to see the materials list was provided. I started them right away but they sat after painting until I figured out wiring and beading etc. It was fun to learn something new – Thank You!
January 12th, 2011
Jillayne, I’m very happy to hear that you made the clay hearts…I’d love to see your interpretation. And it’s so cool that you figured out the wiring and beading. I’ve found that having many technique options (like beading) to pick from keeps the creative process fresh and exciting.
January 12th, 2011
AHHH, lovely. Count me in for this lovely giveaway. I love everything you make with your creative hands 🙂
January 12th, 2011
These hearts are fabulous.

January 13th, 2011
As a six-organ transplant recipient, I have had to give up my passion -my lengthy career as a professional educator. However, I have not stopped being productive and treasuring the intrinsic rewards of giving on my time, energy, and love to all I meet. It is my goal to make gifts -small gifts of comfort for others among the transplant community -throughout 2011. This is an amazing group of items and ideas. I’d love the opportunity to share the love with this set -especially a chance to offer the hearts of comfort to others on the waiting list for an organ transplant or to a donor family to honor their loved one who gave new life to someone like me.
By God’s grace… here I am and I am ready to give back of my time, energy, love, and homemade crafts each day.
God bless,
Jean Crawford

January 14th, 2011
LOVELOVELOVE!!!
January 24th, 2011
I love the necklaces. Needle felting does have such a cozy feel to whatever you make using that method and buttons I love. Thanks for the chance to win you great creations.
January 27th, 2011
I love the heartfelt necklaces. They are very unique. I purchased Jewelry Affaire to learn how to make them.
February 5th, 2011
Sandy, Just to clarify a bit, the hearts that you see on this post are made using wool roving and a needle-felting technique, while the wool hearts that are published in Jewelry Affaire are made from felted wool scraps (by felting old wool sweaters in the washer and dryer.) I hope this additional information will be helpful to you. To keep things straight please follow the instructions included in my article in Jewelry Affaire and you should be all set.
February 5th, 2011
Came upon your website on a cold, sunny lunch hour. Your button and bird
creations warmed my heart and set my mind a flapping! I too have an inspired, creative love of both. Birds for their ability to fly away or into
another location on whim, and buttons as they call to mind memories
of my grandmothers and creative whimsy. You do inspire!
