Sweet-Heart-Love

Sweet decadent treats…love them!  Like these itty-bitty chocolatey cupcakes from a local bakery.  Sometimes I have to have the most indulgent treats.

However, sometimes when I want something sweet, but also somewhat healthy, I’ll bake up a batch of oatmeal cranberry cookies with some ground flax seed mixed in.  And I’ll swap some of the butter with applesauce too…no one ever knows the difference.  Making these small, healthy adjustments is good for the heart.

Speaking of hearts, here are a couple that I made using these stamps from Crescendoh.  The very talented Jenny designed these cute and clever stamps.

I couldn’t help sneaking in a little “love”.

You can find the how-to instructions for making the 2″ x 2″ mini-canvases (shown above) at the Crescendoh Gallery.

Below is a heart-inspired package that I made for my sweet daughter, Brook.  I repurposed a toilet paper roll into a pocket (simply machine sew one end together) and added a soft heart made of organic cotton batting.

Wrap some goodies in tulle and tuck inside…so easy and pretty.

Here’s another easy project for you.  Altering Scrabble tiles is so quick that you can whip up a batch of heart love in no time (to make it even quicker, originally I created 5 different designs to fit on top of a tile, and then made color photocopies to make many multiples.)

Just in case anyone’s been admiring the pink buttons in this post…BTW, they’re hand dyed.  These sweet and beautiful buttons are available in the “Button Love” kit over at Crescendoh.

For these next couple of weeks I’ll be taking a blog break.  I’ve been craving some fresh air so I’ll be stepping outside more to take it all in.  I should be back by the start of March.  Until then, Happy sweet-heart-love to you and yours!

  1. all so sweet and lovely. one question-how do you poke holes through the tiles?

enjoy your blogging break. best wishes.

  2. To answer your question Ludid. I used a hand held Dremel tool to drill a tiny hole through the tile. Place a small wooden block underneath the tile so the drill bit doesn’t go through the tile and into your table surface. I use this drill for many things so it’s really worth getting if you don’t already have one.

  14. The sweetest of posts.
I adore the toilet roll pouch because of the elegance of its simplicity. Also, this is something I enjoy altering myself, makes a beautiful manner in which to present a small gift.
Enjoy your break but please don’t be away for too long 🙂

  15. I <3 all of your lovely creations! What glue did you use on the Scrabble tiles? I hope to make some Valentines today. My daughter and her friends are baking right now…it smells really sweet at my house. I love to tweak recipes, your adjustments sound great~ enJOY your break! ATB

  16. Ellen…about the glue question. I used a glue stick to adhere the paper to the tile. Then I added a light layer of Diamond Glaze on top of the paper to protect it as well as give it shine. Once the Diamond Glaze is dry (usually takes 24 hours) then you can drill a hole through the tile and add your wire hanger.

  19. Good Morning, Becky! Took some time to catch up on many of your past posts, and, as always, such beautiful art you’ve shared. You always provide fabulous inspiration. I LOVE the t-paper tube pocket. Love it! And the canvas project … I have to try it. Thanks for sharing the instruction link.

Oh, please pop over to my blog and see how I am displaying the amazing little fabric tag you included with the Mingle mag I won some months back in your giveaway. I love it. It makes me smile every time I walk by it.

    Have a wonderful Sunday.

  22. So many wonderful ideas in one post!
I love the little canvases – so much conveyed in such a small piece of art… and the scrabble tiles look wonderful.
    Hearts are everywhere this week!

  23. Becky,
I’m nearly shocked seeing this because I have made a Valentine for my hubby with the same heart you applied to your gift package for your sweet daughter. The colors are different, white and red, but the similarity is incredibly striking. Someone would say, great minds think alike!:)
    Hugs!

  25. Happy Heart Hugs Becky Dear. Love every one of your Valentine creations. And definitely eat some delicious chocolate goodness. Enjoy your fresh air time. Winter may finally have arrived as we had rain and a few inches of rain last night. Breathe that fresh air we all enjoy…

  26. Love these ideas, thanks so much for sharing…your blog is like looking at my favorite magazines.
I’ve tried to sew on cardboard like that and my machine jams…wonder what i’m doing wrong?..I’m not a real sewer so I run into trouble with the machine.

Enjoy your break and come back soon. 🙂

  27. For Scarlett and anyone else who might prefer to sew by hand, or If your sewing machine isn’t cooperating. You can try to hand stitch the edge closed – try using a hole punch (with smallest circle punch available) to punch holes along one edge of the roll. Then use these holes to run an embroidery needle and thread through, creating a pocket-like package.

  29. Becky:

Enjoyed reading your article about creating Heartfelt Jewelry in Stampington’s Postscript. Hearts are one of my favorite symbols. I definitely will be making some of these “cuties.”

    February 15th, 2012

  30. Becky, sweet confections! Both the treats and the hearts!
I make healthy scones the same way – substituting no fat yogurt or applesauce and using whole wheat flour. I make them sweet by adding Splenda or savory by eliminating that and adding sauteed (in olive oil), peppers, onions, garlic, a tiny bit of bacon and low fat grated Parmesan cheese. Oh….yummmmy!
