Summer’s Lasting Signs

After the passing of each season I like to revisit some of my favorite experiences, such as the blurring of day into night.  The golden center has a mesmerizing effect…pulling you in, into a peaceful lull.

I think Mac loved these moments as much as I did.  He even slowed down enough (which is rare for him at the beach) to savor this easing of light.

And speaking of light, one day as I was reading this book at the beach, I realized that I forgot to bring a bookmark with me.  And since I don’t like to bend the pages in order to keep my place, I looked around my immediate area for a piece of something to use as a bookmark. In seconds I spotted a small piece of debris sticking out of the sand, and as I plucked it out I saw that it was a piece of bark…shaped like a birdie! I was beyond delighted to find this amazing surprise.  This felt like some sort of sign to me, but what exactly?  I’m still not sure.  So I decided to “bookmark” this moment for another time…hoping that perhaps a clue would later appear.

Soon after, while browsing some artsy shops in Kennebunkport (down the road from our vacation home) I saw the message below written on the walls of a studio.  To me, this message came across loud and clear, so I decided to take it to heart by taking it easy.  Looking back, I’m so glad that I listened.

And you, what signs have you come across recently…and did they leave a lasting impression?

glad you took the time to just be. been reading a lot this summer. any profound words or ideas? believe in the good. of others, and yourself, be a positive person. something I always try to be, but always good to reminded. and lets face it, sometimes negative thoughts creep in regardless of how hard we try. as far as signs, look around they’re all over. don’t always get the message that’s being sent though. but I do enjoy soaking in the beauty that surrounds me. maybe that’s the message, enjoy and appreciate what is around you. grateful for all of it.
    thanks Becky.

  2. I do believe that sometimes things happen for a reason, and that little things can carry a message with them, as your little bookmark and the quote. We just have to keep an open mind and an open heart. 🙂

  3. Hi Becky,
So glad you got to take the time to enjoy the “moment”. It’s so important for all of us.
I’ve taken the time this summer to remember the moments with my beloved husband. He passed away on June 27th-so…time has stood still since then. Remembering things that were said and the conversations…
    Cherish every moment.

I love those peaceful lulls….when you can’t keep on reading and your eyelids insist on fluttering! Love the bookmark. And Mac looks like a sweet dog. 🙂

My sympathies to Sonya also. I don’t know her but I can send some prayers her way.

It’s such a joy to take in peacefull lulls. It always seems to bring me to a place of gratitude and apprecaition whether I’m sitting and reflecting on the beach, or in my own back yard quietly watching the hummingbirds and the bunnies, along with the many other songs of nature.
You definitely had a message come to you. It’s so thought-provoking and causes one to look inward when something like this presents itself so clearly. Thank you for sharing Becky.

  8. Wonderful sentiments~I love the top photo. it has the mood of your thoughts…and that little piece of bark! I’ve found rocks that were shaped like hearts but never birds. So cool.

  9. It’s so rare that moments like these happen, but when they do it almost sends a shiver down your spine. It’s like we are being told to pause a moment.

  10. How true is that. When our head is full, whether it’s turmoil, or razzle-dazzle, it overwhelms our connection to the world. and it’s that connection that is the key to our well-being…. at least, that’s what I think…
I don’t bend the corners anymore because my husband has hissy-fits if I do but I remember an old English textbook I found that had some very beautiful poems that were well ear-marked, and others with underlines and notes in the margins. I loved the connection they gave me to others who had held that book before, and so I am torn between taking care of a book, and leaving something tangible about my connection to it. (He still thinks I’m wrong!)
